Shamballa Jewels was founded by the brothers Mads and Mikkel Kornerup in Copenhagen, Denmark. We make precious jewellery that encourages the possibility of connecting to our inner compassion and wisdom.
In 2001 Mads Kornerup designed what is known today as the iconic Shamballa Bracelet. The bracelet comprised of diamond studded gold beads strung together by the ancient macramé technique. Together the brothers developed the bracelet designs further, and they have since expanded our repertoire to include rings, earrings, cufflinks and necklaces. Today, the spirit of Shamballa Jewels remains equally fuelled by innovation and tradition.
Star rap musician Jay Z was the first to custom order a Shamballa Bracelet. Today, we are honoured to count Karl Lagerfeld, HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, HRH Crown Princess Mette Marit of Norway, Carine Roitfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Von Furstenberg and Giorgio Armani amongst the discerning collectors of our jewellery. Ancient scriptures tell us of a mythical kingdom hidden in a valley in the Himalayas. A harmonious place populated by enlightened and compassionate people, the Kingdom of Shamballa when translated from Sanskrit, means ‘a place of peace and tranquility’. At Shamballa Jewels, we aspire to recreate that mythical place vibrant with the energy of creation. Our philosophy is central to our jewellery and to the way we conduct our commerce.
Evocative of spiritual icons, symbols, and prayer beads used since the dawn of time, our jewellery encourages you to find your inner Shamballa. The distinct way of presenting holistic principles of yoga and meditation with our pavé beads and macramé braiding is now synonymous with Shamballa Jewels’ signature style. Reminiscent of places near and far, of spiritual stories ancient and new, our jewellery is designed to trigger curiosity and inspire conversation.
Just like stars, humans can emanate heat and light. You are a star. The Star of Shamballa present in our design swill be your constant reminder of that.
Explore the Energy of Creation.
The Star of Shamballa, our logo is a recurring motif in our designs. Humans and stars are made of the same matter. Just like stars, humans emanate heat and light too. We shine the brightest when we share compassion and smiles. The Star of Shamballa will be your constant reminder to shine like a star.

Shamballa Jewels is a natural extension of Mads and Mikkel Kornerups’ curiosity about spirituality, yoga and their interest in making fine jewellery. Their curiosity has had them finding inspiration in the Himalayas, adventures in Paris, Japan, New York, losing business as a fall out of the 9/11 attacks in USA, running a yoga and meditation center in Copenhagen and starting afresh to build Shamballa Jewels into the much loved brand it is today. Shamballa Jewels as it stands today is a testament to their belief that everyone can find ‘Shamballa’ within themselves and that creative energy can be unleashed through curiosity and exploration. Mads Kornerup is the creative director of Shamballa Jewels and Mikkel Kornerup directs business administration and product development.
Their core values of brotherhood, compassion, curiosity and creation are deeply ingrained into Shamballa Jewels’ brand values. Our aim is to inspire creativity, peace and tranquility in the wearer through our jewels and in the world through our charitable associations.
Mads Kornerup, founder and creative director of Shamballa Jewels, designed the iconic Shamballa Bracelet that combines sophisticated precious gems with a durable nylon thread. Characterised equally by audacity and tradition, Mads’ pioneering style has redefined the way fine jewellery is worn and perceived.
Born in Denmark in 1970, Mads set out at the age of 19 to travel the world. In Brazil he discovered the beauty and energy of gemstones and was instantly captivated. This led to travels across Japan, India, Nepal, Thailand and Indonesia understanding the craft from native goldsmiths. He simultaneously delved further into the teachings of Buddhism, yoga and meditation. Spirituality is intrinsic to Mads’ design. To Mads, the value of jewellery lies not only in the material but in the very emotions they evoke and represent.
